Pat

Pat hails from the city of Troy, NY where he learned to love the seasons and the snow. After 10 years in Los Angeles he is proud to be back ‘home’ and putting down roots on the East Coast again.

While in LA, Pat received a certificate in Permaculture from Oregon State University and founded Opulent Earth, a small business that designed and created sustainable landscapes: replacing lawns, parking lots and overgrown spaces with native plants and habitat.

Inspired to steward more land and to prove that agriculture can benefit soil, communities and native ecology, Pat and Soham launched Farm on the Fen in 2022 right here in Florida, NY.

Soham

Soham (So-hum) comes to the Farm life through a deep love for food, her curiosity for interesting flavors, and a passion for sustainability and communal resilience.

Born and raised in Bangalore, India, and having studied architecture and urban planning in California, she aspired to a warm, weathered city life with 0 dogs. Surprising everyone, especially herself, she is learning to embrace the mostly chilly, rural “upstate” NY life, dirty farm dogs very much included.

Pickle

Chief officer of herd management, guest-greeting enthusiast.

Pickle’s official job is to herd our chickens, but as a Border Collie sees himself as manager of all living things here at the farm. He is very wise (see left) and has a very low opinion of Kimchi, to whom he dedicates the majority of his nipping/herding.

He will try to climb into your car, we are sorry, he just loves rides. Very friendly, a little too much jumping on guests. Otherwise a very good boy.

Kimchi

Undersecretary of napping and yapping.

Kimchi’s official job is to guard our flock of chickens. He HAD an unblemished record, but became very confused one day about how to correctly play with the birds. Since that fateful day he has repented, seen the light and dedicated himself wholly to guardianship (and napping).

He has chased off at least one bear, many hawks and a lot of very suspicious-looking deer. He put an end to the fox predation we struggled with and truly earns his keep every day. He is a lover and a cuddler: be warned he will try to sit on you and sniff you inappropriately.
